Your secure AKO/DKO account allows you to access a large amount of data useful for you to complete your mission with the DoD.  Your account allows you to access information related to DoD tactics, personnel, and in some cases your own family members.  To protect this information, your identity, and to comply with CIO guidance, AKO/DKO security requires that you authenticate yourself using your CAC as proof positive that you are the true and rightful account holder accessing the system.  Though the information required for verification over the phone is not readily available for anyone other than the account holder, verification via CAC is much more secure as it requires possession of the CAC, and it’s PIN, which is established at official DoD facilities using biometric data.
